Mr. Smolik was born and raised in Rockport, Texas. He attended The University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Government in 2005. Following graduation from The University of Texas, he attended St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree in 2008. Mr. Smolik began his career in the oil and gas industry working as a landman in the Eagle Ford, primarily in Karnes County and Live Oak County. In 2009, Mr. Smolik moved to Houston, Texas, working as a contractor on a large scale due diligence project for a large oil and gas company located in Houston, Texas. In 2010, Mr. Smolik accepted a position with an oil and gas law firm located in Houston, Texas, where he drafted oil and gas title opinions. In 2013, Mr. Smolik began working at a large oil and gas operator in Houston, Texas. There, he had the opportunity to work both as a Division Order Analyst as well as a Title Landman.
Mr. Smolik began private practice in 2016. His practice is devoted to drafting oil and gas title opinions (Eagle Ford Shale, Haynesville Shale & Permian Basin) and real estate law. He is a member of the Oil, Gas & Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, as well as the Real Estate, Probate & Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Smolik is also a member of the Texas Bar College.
Over the course of his fifteen (15) years of experience working as a landman and as a oil and gas title attorney in the oil and gas industry, Mr. Smolik has formed strong relationships with other experienced oil and gas title attorneys whom he works with regularly.
